Phosphate Rich Organic Manure (PROM) is a type of fertilizer used as an alternative to Diammonium Phosphate & Single Super Phosphate. Phosphorus is required by all plants but is limited in soils. Excess application of chemical fertilizers, in fact reduces the agricultural production as chemicals destroy natural soil flora & fauna.
When DAP or SSP is applied to the soil, only 30% of the Phosphorus is used by the plants, while rest goes into the fixation, which cannot be utilized by plants. Using organic manure with phosphate rock improve phosphate content in the alkaline soil. The organic manure ensure availability of phosphate to the next crop unlike DAP. Researches show that Phosphate Rich Organic Manure increases the crop yield as compared to chemical phosphatic fertilizer while reducing input cost. Phosphate Rich Organic Manure increases soil fertility & productivity as it contains organic matter which promotes growth of beneficial Nitrogen fixing & phosphate solublising bacteria.
